Last year I discovered Korean brand Mizon and I become obsessed with Korean skincare trends, brands, and their fantastic skincare regime as well as their skin.
Studies have proven that peptides can reverse the signs of ageing. Skin is comprised mostly of collagen (75%), a protein that is comprised of a long chain of amino acids.
What Are Peptides?
Collagen provides a foundation and thickness of the skin and is depleted by age and environmental factors (sunlight). As a result, our skin becomes thinner and wrinkled.
When collagen breaks down, it forms short segments of amino acids. These are tiny proteins and active molecules known as peptides.
Peptides in skin care can provide significant anti-ageing benefits.
To sum it up peptides are chains of amino acids which help signal the cells to stimulate collagen production. Besides that they contribute to ease inflammation, protect against free radical damage and smooth out fine lines.
Do you know that collagen is a large molecule that cannot penetrate the skin when applied to the surface in the form of a cream or serum!
Peptides – Topical Use
When you apply skin care peptides topically, your skin “thinks” that your body needs to manufacture new collagen. So with the application of skin care peptides, you trigger the production of collagen.
Most brands use Matrixyl (palmitoyl- or oligopeptide pentapeptide), the neuropeptide that reduces fine lines very well.
Studies show that good quality peptides can play an important role in improving skin conditions and preventing wrinkles and lines.
No adverse side effects have been reported in the use of skin care with peptides.
Mizon Peptide 500 – Packaging
Peptide 500 comes in a glass 30 ml bottle with the pipette that allows easy dosage. The price varies from country to country (from 20-40 £). I paid 28 £.
Peptide 500 serum has a lightweight, slightly runny formula that sinks in the skin very fast. It absorbs almost instantly.
Peptide 500 is 45% peptide formula that hydrates, firms and lifts the skin.
What does the company say about Peptide 500 serum?
The company says that Peptide 500 is a potent serum that combines some potent ingredients that create a strong defence against ageing:
- Acetyl hexapeptide-8 boosts skin renewal, hydrates, and works to reduce fine lines
- Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4: helps to stimulate collagen and firm the skin
- Pentapeptide-13: hydrates
- Copper Tripeptide-1 is healing, promotes production of collagen and elastin, and is anti-inflammatory
Mizon Peptide 500 Review
I love this product and will continue purchasing it. With its runny, watery consistency it sinks into the skin right away and keeps my skin hydrated.
I’m in my late twenties, so I don’t have any wrinkles, but I have dehydrated dull skin and a few smiley lines. After a month of continuous use, my skin visibly improved, became more plumped, glowy and younger looking.
I’ve used it at night as a part of my nighttime routine, in a serum step.
